Met as undergraduate students while Dian was attending Moorhead State University in Minnesota and Andy was attending North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Andy graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from NDSU in 1964 and worked for IBM in Rochester, MN for a time. Dian graduated from MSU with a degree in Mathematics and a Secondary education certificate in 1966 and taught mathematics at Kellog Junior High in Rochester, MN for a time.

Got married in July 1967 and lived in Houghton, MI for three more years while Andy got MS and PhD degrees in Engineering Mechanics and Dian got an MS in Mathematics from Michigan Technological University.

Moved to Morris, MN in 1970 where Dian and Andy taught at the University of Minnesota, Morris for many years. Their sons Brian (Livermore,CA), Kevin (Morris, MN), and Jeremy (Grand Marais, MN) were raised in Morris. Their granddaughter, Sierra, also lives in Morris.

Andy and Dian retired from UMM in the Spring 2008. During our time at UMM we also co-founded Internet service providing companies, held Fulbright Scholar appointments in Ecuador(Andy) and as a researcher at SINICA Research Institute in Taiwan(Dian), spent time at the University of Arizona and Texas A&M Univeristy(PhD Dian), and traveled to Greece, Portugal, Australia, Scotland, Finland and throughout the United States to attend computing conferences. Upon retiring we chaired the 2010 Celebration of UMM's 50th year of operation.

After retiring we have volunteered for a number of organizations: AARP's Driving Safety classes and Tax Aide, St Francis Health Service Board, Runestone Electric Advisory Council, Ida Lake Association Webmaster and Director, UMM Retiree Association Webmaster, etc for Andy and Douglas County Hospital Board member, UMM Retiree Association President, Ida Lake Association President, Prairie Renaissance Cultural Center, West Wind Village, etc for Dian. Currently we split our time between our permanent home in Alexandria, MN and a winter home in Rincon, Puerto Rico.
